Thank you, Anastasia, for including APPLE PIE 4TH OF JULY!

In the 1990s, my parents owned a mini-mart that sold Chinese food-to-go–even on the 4th of July. There are very few Asians in Myrtle Creek, Oregon, so I couldn’t believe that people would buy Chinese food on this “all-American” holiday…but people surprised me–inspiring this book!

This 4th of July I’m going to be visiting Texas…and I’m hoping that Babe’s Chicken in Roanoke or Angelo’s BBQ in Fort Worth are open. No Chinese food for me this year!
